FIG President Stig Enemark attends the GhIS/CASLE/FIG Conference

Meeting with the traditional leaders of the Accra Region was a highlight during the GhIS/CASLE/FIG Conference.

FIG President Stig Enemark attended the Accra Conference of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors organized jointly with CASLE and FIG Commission 8, in Accra, Ghana, 24.26 February 2010.

The conference attracted about 1000 surveyors mainly from Ghana but many from Nigeria. The theme of conference was “The Surveyor: Partner in National Development” that was very well reflected through the conference. The Opening session was attended by the Honorable Minister of Land and Natural Resources and the Honorable Minister of Transport. Welcome addresses were given by Mr. K. H. Osei-Asante, President of Ghana Institution of Surveyors; Mr. Joseph Segun Ajenlekoko, Regional President of CASLE, and Prof. Stig Enemark, FIG President.

The program included a range of themes covering most aspects of surveying activitie sin Ghana. A key feature was the almost full day seminar organized by Dr. Diane Dumashie (Chair of FIG Commission 8) focusing on “Peri-Urban development: The Role of Traditional Authorities and Land Professionals”. The seminar was opened by a keynote presented by President Enemark entitled “Surveying: Supporting the Global Agenda and Serving Society”. 

Further presentations were given by Wafula Nabutola (Chair-elect of FIG Commission8) on “An East African lens, Traditional leadership in Kenya: The land cycle – outskirts/rual to peri-urban to informal settlements”; and a special keynote by traditional leader Awula Annor Adjaye focusing on Traditional Authority Leadership and introduced by Mr. Kwame Tenadu Ghana delegate to FIG Commission 8. These presentations were followed by very a very lively discussion guided by Dr. Diane Dumashie on focusing on the role of land professionals; the tools and methodologies land professionals need, and how to bring together key actors.
