President Magel visits Slovenia

Professor Dr.-Ing. Holger Magel visited between 30 September and 1 October 2004 Slovenia on invitation by the Slovenian Association of Surveyors. The visit was organized on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of the Krim coordinate system, simultaneously with International Conference "Land Surveying – Future Prospects and Reality" , in which Prof. Magel addressed the participants.

During two days visit in Slovenia President Magel had courtesy reception and meeting with the Minister of Environment, Physical Planning and Energy mag. Janez Kopač. During the meeting among different issues also the present situation and perspectives of geodetic services and profile of surveyors in Slovenia in connection with the EU were discussed.

At the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food the European agriculture policy was discussed from the point of view of local rural development with the host, state secretary, Dr. Marija Markeš.

Participation of President Magel, at the round table with representatives of University, Surveying and Mapping Authority of the Republic of Slovenia, Chamber of Licensed Geodetic Surveyors, Economy Association of Private Surveying Companies and Geodetic Institute of the Republic of Slovenia was focused mainly on global changes in connection with technological development and changing role of surveyors.

Second day of the visit, Prof. Magel gave a lecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy under the title "New challenges to education in geodesy and geoinformation". As honourable guest President Magel had a short speech in the afternoon at the celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the establishment of a memorial of the Krim coordinate system.
