As we are still in January I would like to wish all a Happy New Year. 2026 will be an exciting year for FIG and we do hope that you will take part in this journey. Hopefully, it will be possible to meet you in person in May at the main FIG Congress in South Africa. There are still a few days left to make use of the early bird fee (register and pay). Hereafter the fee will increase.
In this newsletter you will find an invitation to attend the FIG General Assembly which is taking place as part of the Congress and what awaits you. Further, a major milestone has been reached as the ISO standard of the Land Administration Domain Model has now been completed with the financial assistance from FIG Foundation. Read on.

We do hope to see you at the main FIG event - the FIG Congress 2026 - which marks the final year of the current leadership of FIG. Please note that after 30 January the registration fee will increase. To make use of the early bird rate, please register now, and remember to pay, too. Otherwise your registration fee will be changed to the higher rate.

The draft technical programme is available - packed with sessions covering topcs of all ten FIG Commissions, task forces, networks as well as sessions with partners.

Online Presidents Meeting in February 2026

FIG Member Association Presidents and FIG Representatives have received an invitation by FIG President Diane Dumashie to attend one of the three online Presidents Meetings held on 10 and 11 February 2026. The invitation incl link to register has been sent to the association and presidents directly. If you have not received the invitation please contact Louise Friis-Hansen at FIG office.  


Invitation to FIG General Assembly and Congress 2026

As part of the FIG Congress 2026 the General Assembly will be held including elections for president and two vice presidents for the term 2027-2030 and the host for the Congress 2030. Read more about what awaits you.

A Major Milestone for Global Land Administration: FIG LADM Project finalised

FIG Land Administration Domain Model - A decade in the making: Finalisation of ISO standards of Land Administration Domain Model (LADM) is now completed. A FIG Foundation Grant provided to Assistant Professor Abdullah Kara has enabled the finalisation of the LADM standard.

 ARTICLE OF THE MONTH

The article of the month in January 2026 is a paper written by Pedro Afonso Cardoso Manarin and Everton Da Silva, Brazil: Application of the Fit-for-Purpose Land Administration related to the concepts of the Social Tenure Domain Model in irregular urban areas in Brazilian Municipalities.  The paper was presented at the FIG Commission 7 and 8 of the UFSC FIG Joint Land Administration Conference in Brasil and examines how fit-for-purpose (FFP) land administration and the Social Tenure Domain Model (STDM) can improve multipurpose land cadastre systems in areas of irregular occupation.
