FIG CONGRESS 2018, 6-11 MAY 2018 IN ISTANBUL TURKEY

Dear friend and colleague, do not miss the 26th FIG Congress, which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey!

Register now for this main event for surveyors in 2018

Normal registration closes 6 April 2018.

Please note that after 6 April 2018 the registration fee will increase by 100 EUR. 

The Full-registration fee includes participation in the Opening Ceremony, Welcome Reception, 4 conference days (7-10 May), FIG General Assembly (members), lunches, coffees and exhibition as well as the farewell reception.

When you register you may also choose to participate in our special Turkish Evening/Foundation Dinner which is a night of rich display of Turkish culture and art, and the Gala Dinner as well as several technical and social tours.

In parallel with the the technical sessions on 7-10 May there will be an exhibition showcasing some of the latest news within the industry.

Moving the surveying profession to the next level

FIG Congress offers interesting technical tours and a variety of technical sessions.

The sessions will both highlight the challenges of the region as well as focus on the international development. The overall theme of the congress is:  ‘Embracing our smart worlds where the continents connect: Enhancing the geospatial maturity of societies'.. A few years ago, we identified the need for providing reliable, evidence-based open and/or low-cost data which describe a “spatially enabled” society. But today we realize that we have an additional task to ensure that these data and tools are used intelligently by the society and governments and through that to ensure the transition from the stage of a “spatially enabled” society to the stage of a “spatially mature” society.

The technical programme will consist of around 400 key note, high level, special sessions and presentations from the open call for papers in 110 sessions. Hereto there will be sessions with our insititutional partners World Bank, UN-Habitat/GLTN and FAO and sessions designed by our four faithful platinum members of FIG: Bentley, ESRI, Leica and Trimble First draft of the technical programme will be available soon at the website.

Plenary Sessions

Each conference day will start with a plenary session with invited key note speakers. Three specially selected key note speakers will elaborate on the overall theme within the following sub areas:

FIG General Assembly 2018 – 6 and 11 May 2018 – achievements and elections

For all FIG Members the 41st FIG General Assembly will be held in connection with the Congress. First part of the General Assembly takes place Sunday 6 May, 09:00 – 16:30. Second part is on Friday 11 May, 11:00 – 15:30. During the first General Assembly there will be reports from the President and the Chairs of Commissions, Networks, Permanent Institutions and Task Forces and presentations of candidates for the coming term 2019-2022. At the second General Assembly there will be elections of FIG President, two Vice Presidents, Commission Chairs and the venue for the Congress 2022.

Do you need a visa?

he Conference is hastily approaching. If you have not yet secured your visa to enter Turkey, you should do so now. Many participants at the FIG Congress 2018 can apply for visa electronically, thus making the visa process as easy and smooth as possible. FIG and the local organisers work closely together with the Turkisk embassies in order to ensure that the handling of your visa process will go as smoothly as possible.
