Membership categories

FIG has five different levels of membership and two levels of honorary
membership. Through different membership categories
120 countries
are represented in FIG. The membership categories are:
- National associations representing one or more of
the disciplines of surveying. In May 2010 there are 103 member
associations from 86 countries.

- Organisations, institutions
or agencies which provide commercial services related to the
profession of surveyor (35 Corporate members in May 2010);
- Organisations, institutions or agencies which promote
education or research in one or more of the disciplines of surveying
(89
academic members from 53 countries in May 2010).

- An individual may be appointed to correspondent in
a country where no association or group of surveyors exists that is
eligible to join FIG as a member association or affiliate (18
correspondents in November 2009).

FIG has two levels of honorary membership:
- Past presidents who have rendered outstanding service to the
Federation during their period of office (9 Honorary Presidents in
May 2009).
- Individuals who have materially assisted the development and
promotion of the surveying profession at the international
level (32 Honorary Members in May 2010).
