Under-represented Groups in FIG
(This site "This site will be updated by 31 October
2007. In issues related to the e-Newsletter for under-represented groups
in surveying, please contact one of the three editors mentioned on your
left.)
Purpose
The Joint Commission Working Group WG 1.5 on
Under-represented Groups in Surveying is continuing the work of an FIG
Task Force which was established in Buenos Aires1996 in response to concerns from the
Commissions, the Council and the General Assembly that under-represented
groups like women, students and young surveyors and cultural groups were
not represented in FIG and to give better opportunities for these groups
to participate the international co-operation in surveying. The work of
the Task Force which was closed at the FIG Congress in Washington, DC in
April is now continued in a Joint Commission Working Group WG 1.5 under
Commission 1.
The Working Group is also in charge for the Network on
this topic with the aim to publish a quarterly
Newsletter. The first
Newsletter was published in July 2002.
The terms of reference of the working group are as follows:
- Survey the role of minorities in the world of surveying and the
benefit of diversity.
- Analyse the present status of under-represented groups and be aware
of good practices concerning the support of under-represented groups
in FIG member associations, in professions and at universities.
- Enhance fair competition for minority groups.
