The present Department of Earth Sciences, Annamalai University has been established in the year of 1953. It offers courses in Applied Geology, M.Sc (2Yr; Full -Time), Applied Geology, M.Sc (5Yr Integrated; Full -Time), P.G Diploma in Remote Sensing and GIS (1Yr; Part-time), M.Phill in Applied Geology (Full -Time) and Ph.D. in Applied Geology (Full -Time). About 14 Full Time teaching staffs and 11 non-teaching staff are motivating the Department. The teaching staff are working in the thrust areas in Earth Sciences namely, Petrology & Geochemistry, Sedimentology, Mineral Exploration, Environmental Geology, Hydrogeochemistry and Water resource analyses research study. The Department has received National and International projects and grants. It has produced 48 M.Phill and 7 Ph.D. Researchers published more than 36 National and 5 International research papers. The Department organised 2 International and a National level Seminar / Symposium programmes.
