The seminar “Assessment of Training Opportunities and Needs for Surveyor
and their Technicians in West Africa” was organised by the Fédération des
Géomètres Francophones (FGF) in Niamey, Niger, 14-15 October 2010. The
seminar was co-sponsored by FIG.
The successful event hosted by the Association des Géomètres Experts du
Niger gathered about 80 participants from 13 countries from Sub-Saharan
Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic
Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Nigeria, Senegal,
Togo) and of course from Niger.
For each country, a current state of the training opportunities for a
surveyor has been assessed, as well as their specific needs.
The seminar was chaired by François Mazuyer, President of the FGF.
The honorary guests were, notably, the Equipment Minister of Niger and PhD
Remy Sietchiping from UN-Habitat. FIG was represented by Marc
Vanderschueren on request by President Stig Enemark.
FGF will publish as soon as possible a complete report of the work and
finding of the Seminar.
