ESRI and the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) Offer
ESRI ArcGIS Software at a Special Discount to FIG Members
The ESRI and FIG discount program provides special prices on ArcGIS
software to FIG members and contributes 10% of sales to the FIG Foundation
ESRI, the world leader in geographic information system (GIS) software
and FIG announce a joint program to allow FIG members in good standing to
purchase ArcGIS software at a 10% discount. The program also gives 10% of
ESRI’s revenues from sales back to the FIG Foundation.
The renewal of the discount program will offer the same base level of
ESRI GIS technology for purchase by individual members of FIG with the
latest version of ArcGIS products. ArcView, ArcEditor, ArcInfo, and ArcGIS
Survey Analyst will be offered at a 10% discount from authorized ESRI
distributors. The goal of the program is to put the newest capabilities of
GIS into the hands of FIG members around the world. ESRI is continually
improving the integration of survey measurement data and survey methods
with its GIS technology.
“With the new tools in GIS, surveyors can use precision measurement
technology to incrementally update the spatial accuracy of data in GIS,”
said Brent Jones, ESRI survey industry manager. “This new
technology engages the surveyor in the GIS community and encourages the
GIS community to utilize the accurate data that surveyors provide.
Employing the new notion of the ‘Parcel Fabric,’ surveyors can use their
field and record measurements to improve the accuracy of all data layers
in GIS with industry accepted least squares adjustments.”
Much of research and development that drives ESRI's product evolution
comes from the working knowledge of government and commercial survey
companies who use GIS. "Cadastral mapping, a very large segment of our
user base, depends upon survey data to accurately delineate land
ownership,” said Kevin Daugherty, ESRI cadastral industry
manager. “Including tools inside ArcGIS that load, store, adjust, and
create connections to other GIS layers has been a major factor in the
success of our technology in land registration systems throughout the
world. Enhanced technology without education is not going to be put to
effective use. FIG is very important to ESRI because it reaches
individuals in all parts of the world and in many professions involved in
geospatial activities, providing education and events that foster
knowledge transfer.”
As technology delivers new tools and expands possibilities for
communities and regions around the world, ESRI and FIG are working
together to offer solutions to every type of GIS need. By giving 10% of
revenue back to the FIG Foundation, ESRI aims to support FIG’s outreach
efforts and educational goals.
“The International Federation of Surveyors has actively looked for
ways to improve surveying education and profession both in developed and
developing countries,” said Prof. Holger Magel, FIG president.
“The FIG Foundation is our response to help young surveyors and
developing countries. The new agreement is a logical follow-up to the
cooperation between FIG and ESRI to assist our individual members in the
getting the modern GIS technology and at the same time raise funds to the
FIG Foundation to support young surveyors.”
FIG members can obtain their discount certificates from the FIG office
by emailing fig@fig.net and presenting
the certificate at their local ESRI distributor when purchasing the
software.
