2017 FIG Director Generals Forum

Date: Tuesday 30 May, 14:00 - 15:30
Venue: Rom 209
By invitation only

The Annual FIG Director Generals Forum brings together Chief Executives or Director Generals (or their representatives or nominees) of national (or provincial) agencies and FIG Affiliate Membership that has responsibility over mapping, cadastral, valuation, planning and development, land administration and management from around the world. The Forum allows peer-to-peer engagement to address the challenges and opportunities of the times including the responsibility of national agencies to stay relevant and effective within its jurisdiction.

In line with the overall theme of the Working Week, the DG Forum this year will focus on the way digitalisation will affect and transform our operations and organisations. We are sure that this is a matter that will be one of the most important to prepare for and deal with in the next few years. As the Keynote presentations that open the Working Week on Tuesday, which is the day of the DG Forum, also will deal with digitalisation, we feel that this opportunity to discuss what digitalisation can or will mean in a smaller
group with colleagues is very timely. At the Director General Forum there will be a panel consisting of Arvo Kokkonen, Director General
Finland, Brent Jones, ESRI, and Bengt Kjellson, Director General Sweden.

2017 FIG Academic Members Forum in cooperation with FAO

Date: Thursday 1 June, 14:00 - 15:30
Venue: Room 209

During the FIG Working Week in Christchurch, in May 2016, FAO and FIG joined forces to make a further step in the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the Context of National Food Security (VGGT) in surveying education and research. The FIG Academic Members Forum decided to form a working group with the aim of exploring the VGGT from a surveying perspective. The aim of the working group is to identify and strengthen the role of the surveying and land professional in the implementation of the VGGT. One of the activities by the working group is a study on how the VGGT are represented in the surveying curricula in order to support the FIG community in the implementation of the VGGT in the professional surveying education.

At this years FIG Academic Members Forum the results of an online questionnaire will be presented: How Is the VGGT Travelling over Time in the Survey Community? Other headlines are: Land Governance for Surveyors: the VGGT in the Curriculum; and Towards a Responsible Land Administration Curriculum.

2017 FIG Corporate Members Meeting

Date:  Thursday 1 June, 16:00 - 17:30
Venue:  Presidents office
By invitation only

Again this year, FIG Council and President will host the traditional Corporate Members Meeting. The Corporate Members are highly esteemed members of FIG, and the Corporate Member Meeting will be used to get your feedback on our cooperation, on your experience at the FIG Working Week – especially if you are also a sponsor/exhibitor, and to exchange ideas for future cooperation. In 2015 FIG Council and General Assembly established a Task Force on Corporate Members in order to strengthen the FIG relationship with the corporate members, and the Task Force is chaired by John Hohol, National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) in cooperation with Bryn Fosburgh, Vice President of Trimble. The progress of the Task Force work will also be discussed among FIG Corporate Members at the meeting, and your input for the future structure of corporate members and areas of cooperation is appreciated.
