78th FIG Working Week 2016

Christchurch, New Zealand 2-6 May 2016 at Horncastle Arena and Addington Raceway

Recovery from Disaster

The theme, “Recovery from Disaster,” reflects New Zealand’s experience recovering from the 2011 Christchurch earthquake sequence. Many inhabitants throughout the world face various kinds of disasters such as eg. flooding, storms, tsunamis, drought and the after effects of conflicts etc. Surveying and spatial professionals are key actors in making an important contribution to improve, simplify and to shorten the disaster mitigation, rehabilitation and reconstruction phase.

FIG Working Week is an exciting week-long conference that brings the international community of surveying and spatial professionals together to experience a mix of interesting plenary and technical sessions and workshops, a trade exhibition and a variety of side events and social functions. The week gives a unique opportunity to discuss key challenges of our time within the surveying profession with fellow peers. Please explore the website for more information. Enjoy. The organising committee looks forward to welcoming you to Christchurch in May.

Registration for FIG Working Week + Expo 2016 is now open.

 Early Bird ends February 8.

We are delighted to announce our speakers for the Plenary Sessions. This year’s speakers will focus on aspects of the theme Recovery from Disaster. We are proud to feature experts who have worked both within and beyond the surveying/spatial profession for decades and fresh faces of young initiators.

Christchurch is the gateway to New Zealand’s South Island, which contains some of the most spectacular landscapes in the world. Within a few hours drive of Christchurch are golden beaches, snow-capped mountains, natural hot springs, primeval forests, ice age glaciers, deep fiords, and much more for you to explore.

The Local Organising Committee wants to make travelling to New Zealand to attend the Working Week as easy as possible. For that reason a fact sheet has been assembled that should answer any questions you may have with regard to problem free travel to New Zealand in May of 2016.
