78th FIG Working Week 2016

Christchurch, New Zealand 2-6 May 2016 at Horncastle Arena and Addington Raceway

Recovery from Disaster

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION

The theme, “Recovery from Disaster,” reflects New Zealand’s experience recovering from the 2011 Christchurch earthquake sequence. Many inhabitants throughout the world face various kinds of disasters such as eg. flooding, storms, tsunamis, drought and the after effects of conflicts etc. Surveying and spatial professionals are key actors in making an important contribution to improve, simplify and to shorten the disaster mitigation, rehabilitation and reconstruction phase.

FIG Working Week is an exciting week-long conference that brings the international community of surveying and spatial professionals together to experience a mix of interesting plenary and technical sessions and workshops, a trade exhibition and a variety of side events and social functions. The week gives a unique opportunity to discuss key challenges of our time within the surveying profession with fellow peers. Please explore the website for more information. Enjoy. The organising committee looks forward to welcoming you to Christchurch in May.

PROCEEDINGS

Chryssy Potsiou, President FIG, Marc Allan, NZIS President and Lianne Dalziel, Mayor of Christchurch City Council welcome you to FIG Working Week 2016.

Shortly after 4.30 in the morning of Saturday, 4th September 2010, an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 on the Richter scale shocked the population of the province of Canterbury into wakefulness. Cantabrians were yet to learn that this was but a taste of worse to come.

The ten FIG Commissions, Young Surveyors, FIG Networks, Permanent insititutions and Task Forces have been heavily involved in the planning of the technical sessions that covered a broad range of themes within surveying, and many with the overall theme “Recovery from Disaster” in mind. The technical sessions were a mixture of presentations and in-depth discussions.
