Biographical notes

A graduate of Humber College’s Hydrographic Survey Technologist program, Mr. Leyzack has been involved with surveying for over 15 years, with varied experience in topographic, cadastral, offshore/industrial and hydrographic surveys. He is a commissioned Canada Lands Surveyor and is presently employed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada - Canadian Hydrographic Service, Central and Arctic Region. His career postings have included Hydrographer-in-charge of Western Arctic and Hamilton Harbour Surveys. As president of the CHA, he also serves as the technical councilor for hydrography in the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG) and as the Canadian Delegate to FIG Commission 4.

  • 2004: Commissioned Canada Lands Surveyor and member of the Association of Canada Lands Surveyors (ACLS), Ottawa, ON.
  • 1992: Master of Small Passenger Craft, Camosun College, Victoria, BC.
  • 1989: Hydrographic Survey Technologist with honours, Land Survey Technologist with honours, Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology, Rexdale, ON.

  • 1991 – Present: Multidisciplinary Hydrographer, Canadian Hydrographic Service, Central and Arctic Region, Burlington, Ontario. Engaged in various assignments in field surveys and cartography.
  • 1990: Technologist, Young and Young Surveying Inc., Toronto, Ontario. Instrument work for cadastral, topographic and engineering surveys.
  • 1989 – 1990: Hydrographic Surveyor, Wimpol Incorporated (now Fugro), Houston, TX. Pipeline Services Division, specifically the River Crossing Surveys Section. Other duties included control survey and navigation for offshore exploration and construction.
  • 1988 – 1989: Student Technician, Humber College, Survey Department, Rexdale, ON. Responsible for the maintenance and inventory of survey equipment/instruments, and for providing teaching assistance.
  • 1987 - 1988: Student Hydrographic Surveyor, Canadian Hydrographic Service, Central and Arctic Region. Engaged in surveys for chart production and revisory at various locations throughout central Canada’s inland waters. Duties included topographic and hydrographic surveying.
  • 1985 – 1986: Watchkeeping Mate, Brigantine Romance, St. Thomas, USVI. Engaged in sail training and passenger charter throughout the US/UK Virgin Islands, Leeward and Windward Islands, Caribbean Sea.
