BUSINESS MATTERS FOR PROFESSIONALS
A Guide to support professionals in the task of business
management
Final draft - adopted by the FIG Council 1 December 2001
for presentation to the General Assembly in April 2002
Introduction
Working Group 1.2 of FIG is tasked with bringing matters of business
practice to the attention of surveyors. Particular topics mentioned in
the Group's terms of reference are ethics, IT, standards, quality and
customer service. In doing this work, the Group is also progressing the
objective in the Council's work plan to "develop strategies to
encourage the surveyor to be customer-oriented and to provide a quality
service". To fulfil its remit, the Group has been working on a
Guide for surveyors, providing a 'ready-reference' handbook,
particularly for those setting up in business, as to business practice
areas that they need to investigate, the key issues in the area, and
where to find further information.
The Group has now reached the stage where it has a final draft that it
wants to expose to wider comment. The final draft of 'Business Matters
for Professionals' is attached; the Group would be most grateful for any
comments that you are able to make. If you know of others who could help
in this regard, please alert them to the document.
Particular questions you might care to answer are:
- are the key topics covered by the Guide?
- is the style generally about right?
- is the length about right?
- can you think of a better title?
- do you have any key reference documents, web site addresses etc,
that could be of use to others and so added to the references at the
end of each chapter?
The Group aims to have the Guide ratifed by the FIG General Assembly
in Washington in April 2002. The FIG Council has already adopted the
draft for presentation to the General Assembly but you are still able to
make your comments. These should be sent by 10 January 2002
